Abstract
In 1910 William H. Durham preached “The Finished Work of Calvary” and divided the young Pentecostal movement over the doctrine of sanctification — a rupture from which the Assemblies of God would emerge in 1914. Richmann argues that scholarly treatment of Durham has been hindered by misjudgements in three areas, and that a series of unsupported historical details has produced a dubious timeline for the unveiling of the finished-work teaching. Essential reading for anyone tracing the doctrinal genealogy of Brazilian Assemblies of God theology, which inherited the finished-work position.
