Reformed Faith and Practice: A Seminary Journal, Free Three Times a Year

Reformed Faith and Practice is the journal of Reformed Theological Seminary. It comes out three times a year, it is edited by the seminary faculty, and it is distributed electronically for free — no subscription, no account, no embargo.

The permission notice is unusually generous for a seminary publication: readers may circulate the material in digital form without asking, provided the source is acknowledged and the text is not altered. The current issue is volume 10, Spring 2026.

What Reformed Faith and Practice is good for

Most freely available Reformed writing in English is popular-level. This is not. The articles carry footnotes, engage primary sources and sit at the level a graduate student needs, while staying readable.

The recent run mixes New Testament scholarship, patristics and homiletics — Gregory Lanier on scribal treatment of extra-biblical citations, Jonatán Simons on Augustine’s Christmas sermon 187 — alongside a steady stream of book reviews that work as a map of what is being published in Reformed theology right now.

Where it stands

The journal is confessionally explicit: it serves a seminary committed to biblical inerrancy and the Reformed faith. Pneumatology here is cessationist, and the reader who comes from a Pentecostal congregation should expect that.

That is a reason to read it rather than a reason to skip it. An argument for continuationism that has never met the best cessationist case is an argument that has not been tested.

How to work it

  • Start with the book reviews. They are short, current, and they tell you which monographs are worth the cost.
  • Read the whole issue, not one article. Three issues a year is a manageable volume; skimming each one keeps you current for very little time.
  • Note the permission. Free redistribution in digital form means you may quote generously and share the PDF with a study group.
  • Pair it with Perichoresis. Two confessional Protestant journals, one American and one Romanian, on overlapping ground.
