Abstract

A critical examination of the Pentecostal reading of Spirit baptism in the book of Acts. The authors test the doctrine of a distinct, subsequent experience against the narrative of Acts itself, pressing the question that has divided interpreters since Dunn: whether the episodes in Acts establish a replicable pattern or mark transitions in the history of salvation. Read alongside Marius Nel’s reply in Theologia Viatorum, published the same year — together they form a rare published exchange on the question, with both sides freely available.
